This journey began years ago in a quilting studio in Nelson, BC.  Leah had begun quilting with organic fabric and quickly had trouble sourcing organic cotton that had not been treated or dyed with chemicals.  At first, Leah experimented with natural dye materials in her studio, using onion skins, birch bark, apple leaves and other locally gathered natural dye materials.  Leah also began to research natural dyes and found that there was a wealth of knowledge and experience in India, along with an abundant supply of organic cotton.

In the spring of 2003, Leah embarked on a three month journey to India to find naturally dyed fabric.  While on the Asian sub-continent, Leah studied yoga in Goa and worked on an organic farm in Karnataka.  Through networking, Leah soon discovered a company located in Ahmedabad, about a 8 hour train ride north of Mumbai, that had developed a way to naturally dye lengths of fabric.  The process could naturally dye yardage, was repeatable and consistent, all perfect qualities for Leah's quilting designs.  By the time Leah left India, she had created the basis of the relationship with natural dye house, Aura Herbal Wear.  That relationship is what our business is built on today.

Back in Canada, Leah began to design quilts using the naturally dyed, organic cotton.  Leah found interest in her work in galleries and shows around the province of British Columbia.  To make a living, Leah continued to plant trees (she's planted over 750,000 of them!) and in the off season would design quilts and market them in the local shops and galleries.  Soon it was time to create a formal plan to market the quilts and create other products from the naturally dyed fabric.

In the spring of 2006, Leah began working on a business concept with her older brother Paul, who at the time was in management at Jones Soda Co, the upstart beverage company based in Seattle, WA.  Paul had an interest in starting a small business and began to help Leah develop a formal business plan.  After much planning, Paul left Jones in December 2006 to launch Tenfold Organic Textiles in the US and begin creating and marketing products using the naturally dyed material.

In February of 2007, Paul and Leah traveled back to India to secure their relationship with Aura and to learn more about organic farming and the natural dye process.  The trip took them to the organic farm organization where the bulk of Truly's organic yarns come from, to a conventional dye facility to witness the reasons why it is so important to use natural dyes, to an organic stitching facility and finally back to Ahmedabad.  The trip was tremendous and was documented on the Tenfold Goes to India blog.

The pair decided in early 2007 to create a clothing line that only used the naturally dyed, organic fabric.  Reviewing their market research, Paul noticed a decided lack of naturally dyed, organic apparel, noting that virtually all of the organic cotton in the market had been processed with chemicals.  With this information and with the relationships in India, Truly Organic Apparel was born.

Today, Paul and Leah are building a team of industry professionals, with the goal of creating the most amazing line of apparel without the use of any chemicals; to create something Truly Organic.
